What is the difference between פה and כאן?
Both mean “here,” but they feel a little different.

פה is more conversational. כאן is neutral and often sounds more precise.

The difference

Most translators retrofit Hebrew. We started with it.

Generic translator
literal
“She told me to break a leg before the audition.”
היא אמרה לי לשבור רגל לפני האודישן
× Translates the idiom literally — the listener will think you injured yourself.
“I’m proud of you, sis.”
אני גאה בך, אחות
× Defaults to masculine speaker; reads stiff and textbook-formal.
baba
context-aware
“She told me to break a leg before the audition.”
היא איחלה לי בהצלחה לפני האודישן
Understands the idiom — translates the meaning, not the words.
“I’m proud of you, sis.”
אני ממש גאה בך, אחותי
Female speaker, sister-to-sister warmth, with the natural Israeli “ממש”.

Built for Hebrew, not translated from English

Three principles, no compromises.

01

Gender-aware by default

Hebrew has gendered verbs, nouns, adjectives, and pronouns. Pick the speaker and listener in baba and the translation adapts, instead of leaving those choices implicit.

זכר · נקבה · רבים
02

Slang & cultural context

Curated examples cover street phrases, conversational tone, idioms, and cultural references so you can compare the result with a literal translation.

סבבה · אחי · ממש
03

Private by design

Anonymous translation requires no account. Signed-in history is end-to-end encrypted. We don’t sell data and we’re not ad-supported.

Questions

Everything you might wonder.

Is baba free to use? +
Yes. Guests can translate up to 1,000 characters without a login. A free account raises the monthly allowance to 2,500 characters with no credit card required. Pro is $12.99 a month or $59.99 a year (about $5 a month) with a free trial (30 days on the app's yearly plan, 7 days on the web), and unlocks voice, camera and PDF translation, and cross-device history. Enterprise pricing is custom.
How is baba different from Google Translate? +
Google Translate is useful for broad language coverage and offline packs. baba puts speaker and listener controls directly in the Hebrew translation workflow and includes curated slang and idiom examples. Compare the same gendered sentence in both products to see which workflow fits your task.
Does baba work offline? +
You can view your last 100 translations and browse the slang dictionary offline in the mobile app. Creating new translations needs a connection, since the AI runs in the cloud. Traveling? Grab an eSIM before you land.
Can baba translate Hebrew from photos or PDFs? +
Yes. Supported plans include image and document translation workflows. OCR can misread unclear source text, so review the extracted Hebrew and verify important documents before relying on the translation.
Does baba handle Hebrew slang and idioms? +
baba includes curated Israeli slang and idiom entries and shows contextual notes where available. No product can guarantee every expression, so provide the full sentence and compare ambiguous wording with the conversation where it appeared.
Does baba have a news product? +
Yes. baba News (news.itsbaba.com) reads 17+ Israeli newsrooms in Hebrew and gives you every story in clear English, live and free, with left, center, and right coverage side by side. Most of those outlets have no English edition. No account needed.
